Tokyo, Japan
How we met
We met in Austin, Texas. Of course Austin took Ai to Sushi Junai Omakase for their first date—it’s one of his favorite cuisines, and he definitely didn’t assume she’d love it just because she’s Japanese (she did!). The weeks that followed were coffee, walks, and the kind of conversation you don’t want to end. When Ai returned to Japan—with no firm plan for what came next—Austin knew he had to take a big next step. He booked a flight to Tokyo to see her, and those days in Japan set everything you see between us in motion.
Paris, France
Together
Although Austin and Ai had an amazing time on their first trip to Japan together, Ai still had the better part of a year before she could return to the U.S. Thankfully, they also had a beautiful trip through France, Italy, and Spain. To this day it remains one of their favorite adventures—full of memories they still love to revisit. It’s funny—people always say not to date or marry someone until you’ve traveled with them—but we actually started by traveling together before almost anything else. It definitely helped us get to know each other.

Ai back in America!
Ai came back to Austin and started her life as a college student—while still seeing Austin every day. Eventually they moved together to Dallas, where Ai is finishing school at UTD. These days you’ll usually find them around Plano’s 99 Ranch or Uptown Dallas: trying new restaurants, hunting down fun drink spots, and walking Bear.

When the time came to ask, Austin proposed in Kyoto—a city that already meant something to both of them. Quiet, joyful, and completely them. They chose Kyoto for the wedding for the same reasons: beauty, tradition, and calm. They can’t wait to return with family and friends for the next chapter in the same beloved place.
